Sophie Choate

Sophie Choate is a first-year in Pennypacker Hall. In addition to performing with the Harvard College Opera orchestra, she is principal viola of the Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra. Sophie was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the USA in 2017 and 2018, where she toured Asia and Latin America under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas and Marin Alsop. She currently studies with Jessica Bodner of the Parker Quartet. Awards include first prize in the American Viola Society Festival Youth Solo Competition and a merit award in the 2018 National YoungArts Foundation Competition, as well as prizes in the Utah Valley Symphony and Timpanogos Symphony concerto competitions. Prior to Harvard, Sophie studied with Dr. Claudine Bigelow of Brigham Young University and Jacques Borsarello of the Conservatoire de Versailles. Also a classical soprano, Sophie studies voice with Frank Kelley and formerly with Dr. Isaac Hurtado. She performed in the Harvard College Opera Fall Recital this year and is a proud member of the Harvard University Choir (UChoir).
