Lara Tan Rui Qi

Lara is a junior in Cabot House concentrating in Music and Government. Originally from Singapore, she started singing in 2016 under the tutelage of Ms Jeong Ae Ree. She has since then performed consistently with New Opera Singapore in productions including Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress, Menotti's The Telephone, Dvorak's Rusalka, Verdi's Rigoletto, and most recently in Barab's La Pizza con Funghi. Her operatic credits with Harvard College Opera include Meg Page in Verdi's Falstaff and Noemie in Massenet's Cendrillon, and she looks forward to being the vocal coach for HCO's 2026 production of Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro. She has also dabbled in stage directing, having directed HCO's ArtsFest 2025 performance of Mozart's Don Giovanni Act 1 Finale.

Lara equally enjoys oratorio, art song, and choral music. This past summer, she was a Young Artist in the 2025 Northwestern Bach Academy, and was a finalist in the inaugural Southeast Asia Bach Competition 2025. On campus, she has made guest appearances with Bach Society Orchestra in Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream and as Liesgen in Bach's Coffee Cantata. Lara is a Ferris Choral Fellow and the junior Choir Secretary of the Harvard University Choir, and HCO's VP of Arts for the 2025-26 season. In addition to HCO and UChoir, she has also served as an ad-hoc artistic director for groups on campus like the Harvard-Radcliffe Gilbert and Sullivan Players and Lowell House Opera.
